Textiles
I began my artistic career as a textile artist, apprenticing with the indigenous people in Mexico and Guatemala. In the 1980’s
my scarves, shawls and blankets sold at exclusive boutiques on Madison Avenue and at the department store, Bonwit Teller in New York as well as at high end boutiques in Toronto and in Montreal.
My tapestries explored colour, texture and abstraction. I chose to weave them in the brilliant colours of mohair. In some, strings of sequins were embedded in the weaving. A solo exhibition of my tapestries was held at the Canadian Guild of Crafts in Montreal in 1987 and in 1988 at the Art Gallery of Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. In 1989, I graduated from Concordia U in Montreal with a BFA in Drawing and Painting and decided to become a painter because of the spontaneity of the medium.
