LANDSCAPES

Landscapes of Nova Scotia

There’s a thrill to painting on site in Nova Scotia! I find it exhilarating to paint rapidly in order to capture the moving clouds, the sudden changes in light and colour, the shifting tides, the wind. There’s no time for detail. I paint the feeling of the place. My plein air paintings are in acrylic and oil on canvas with lots of texture.

Photographs of works by Steve Farmer and Eric Boutilier-Brown.

Landscapes of Andalucía

These landscapes are in honour of my father who was born in Malaga, Spain. In the summer of 2003 I visited Spain and stayed at my cousin Esther’s house in a beautiful place in the mountains north of Malaga. I immediately connected with the red earth, the mountains, the light, the almond trees and ancient olive trees. I began painting small plein air watercolours, followed by larger works on paper with acrylic and oil stick. My intention was to express my feelings for this strong and beautiful land which is part of my heritage.

Landscapes of Manitoulin

In the summer of 2004 I visited Manitoulin Island. I was enchanted by the fields full of wild flowers and the dreamy skies. These framed works are on Stonehenge paper in acrylic and oil stick.
